Passport Services Suspended Temporarily for System Upgrade
The Department of Passport has temporarily halted passport application services to implement a new passport system, while passport collection services will continue as usual.
The Department of Passport (DoP) has temporarily suspended regular passport application services as it upgrades to a new passport management system. Passport services at district administration offices, area administration offices, and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad will remain closed for three days, from July 8 to July 10, 2026. Meanwhile, the Department's central office in Kathmandu has suspended passport application services for July 9 and 10. The upgraded system is scheduled to become fully operational from July 13, 2026. Despite the temporary suspension of application services, the Department has clarified that passport collection will continue without interruption. Individuals who have already received an SMS notification confirming that their passport is ready can visit the Department to collect their documents during the transition period.
