Ncell Seeks Government Approval for Pending Share Transfer

Private telecommunications service provider Ncell has formally requested the government to approve its pending share transfer transaction. The request was made during a meeting between Minister for Communication and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina and Ncell’s Chief Regulatory and Corporate Services Officer Dilli Ram Shrestha at the ministry on Tuesday. Shrestha urged the minister to expedite the approval, arguing that timely clearance would provide greater stability for the company’s investment and operations. Ncell also called for equal opportunities and consistent regulatory treatment for all telecom service providers, emphasizing the need for a predictable regulatory environment to support healthy competition and continued investment. In response, Minister Timilsina said the government remains committed to maintaining a fair and transparent telecommunications sector and assured that companies complying with existing laws and regulations would receive necessary government support. He also said past disputes and legal issues involving Ncell would be studied transparently and that matters related to ownership transfer after the expiry of its license would be resolved according to prevailing laws and procedures. During the meeting, Ncell also discussed the subscription-based pricing model, Nepal’s 5G roadmap, additional spectrum allocation to improve network quality, and the technical aspects of the pending share transfer.
