Nepal’s New Ride-Sharing Rules: Rs 25/km for Bikes, Rs 55/km for Cars

The Nepal government has officially standardized ride-sharing rates at Rs 25/km for bikes and Rs 55/km for cars, while capping platform commissions at 10% under the new 2026 guidelines.

Nepal’s New Ride-Sharing Rules: Rs 25/km for Bikes, Rs 55/km for Cars

The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has introduced the Digital Mobility Service Operation Standard 2026, bringing much-needed legal structure to Nepal's ride-sharing industry. Beyond the new fare caps, the law restricts vehicle age to 15 years and limits surge pricing to 30% for two-wheelers and 40% for four-wheelers. To prioritize safety, the government now mandates QR stickers for verification, GPS tracking, and SOS links to police stations within apps. Furthermore, a Traffic Accident Fund will be established, offering up to Rs 1 million in compensation, funded by a small percentage of every trip fare and platform revenue.
