No Separate Date for Dashain New Note Exchange This Year, NRB Says
Nepal Rastra Bank will provide new and fit note exchange services during regular office hours based on market demand, instead of setting a separate Dashain schedule.
Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) will not set a separate date for the exchange of new and small-denomination notes for Dashain this year. Instead, the central bank will provide the service during its regular office hours based on demand from the public. In previous years, NRB used to announce a specific period for distributing new notes ahead of Dashain. However, starting this year, the exchange of new and fit notes will be operated as a regular service. The central bank said it has sufficient stocks of notes and will make them available according to demand. If the supply of new notes is insufficient, fit and clean notes will also be provided. Along with NRB’s banking counters, banks and financial institutions are also collecting new and fit notes from the central bank and distributing them to their customers. Currently, individuals visiting NRB for note exchange can exchange up to two bundles. Each bundle contains 100 notes each of Rs. 5, Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 denominations. According to NRB, new notes may not always be available for personal use, while new and fit notes will be made available for business purposes as well. Therefore, people planning to exchange new notes for Dashain do not need to wait for a separate announcement from NRB. The exchange facility will be available during regular office hours.
