SpaceX Acquires Cursor Maker Anysphere for $60 Billion

Founded in 2022 by Aman Sanger and three MIT classmates, Anysphere developed Cursor, an AI coding platform that helps developers write, edit and debug software using natural-language instructions. Cursor quickly gained popularity among developers and major companies as demand for AI-powered programming increased. The August 2026 acquisition made Anysphere a wholly owned subsidiary of SpaceX. Before the deal, Cursor had already partnered with SpaceX for AI training and access to its computing infrastructure. For Sanger, who became interested in computers at 14 and later studied computer science at MIT, the deal marks a remarkable journey from learning to code as a teenager to co-founding a $60 billion company acquisition just four years after Anysphere was established. The acquisition also strengthens SpaceX’s expanding focus on AI and computing, while highlighting the growing shift toward AI systems capable of handling complex software development tasks.
