Wagle Unveils Five-Point Plan to Revive Nepal’s Economy

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said the government is preparing a strategic roadmap to restore Nepal’s economy and address the challenges facing the private sector and disaster-affected businesses. Speaking to the BBC, Wagle highlighted five key priorities: implementing a Business Recovery Package for flood-affected businesses, reforming the capital market, reviving the private sector, preventing Nepal from being placed on the FATF grey list, and mobilizing international resources for reconstruction. The Council of Ministers has already approved the Business Recovery Package, while reforms are being introduced to strengthen transparency and investor confidence in the capital market. The government also plans to provide investment incentives, accelerate legal and structural reforms related to money laundering, and coordinate with international financial institutions to channel foreign aid and grants into productive reconstruction activities. Wagle expressed confidence that targeted government intervention and international support can help Nepal return to economic normalcy while laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
