‘Cockroach Janta Party’ Surpasses BJP’s Instagram Follower Count in Historic Five-Day Surge
A satirical youth movement named "Cockroach Janta Party" has surpassed the ruling BJP's Instagram follower count within five days.
A meme-driven satirical political movement in neighbouring India, the "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP), has captured global internet attention by amassing nearly 12 million Instagram followers within five days of its launch, effectively overtaking the follower base of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Founded on May 16, 2026, by Abhijeet Dipke—a 30-year-old public relations graduate from Boston University and former political strategist—the CJP emerged in response to courtroom remarks by Chief Justice Surya Kant, who likened certain unemployed individuals entering activism and media to "cockroaches" and "parasites." Although the Chief Justice later clarified that his comments were misquoted and strictly targeted entities using fraudulent degrees, the internet mobilized rapidly. Operating under the ironic tagline "Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed," the unregistered entity has struck a deep chord with Gen Z, tapping into systematic frustrations surrounding nationwide exam paper leaks and job scarcity. Despite its hyper-ironic nature, the CJP has issued a mock five-point manifesto advocating for judicial transparency, strict anti-defection regulations, and a 50% parliamentary reservation for women, drawing open endorsements from prominent Indian opposition leaders and activists.
