Flood Death Toll Reaches 1,341

The death toll from the devastating floods and landslides triggered by the Bhotekoshi disaster has risen to 1,341, according to the latest data released by Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). Chitwan has recorded the highest number of recovered bodies at 362, followed by Nawalparasi East with 222, Nawalparasi West with 220, Nuwakot with 195 and Rasuwa with 163. Bodies have also been recovered in Gorkha, Dhading and Tanahun. So far, only 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to families. Meanwhile, 4,996 people remain unaccounted for, including 2,340 from Nuwakot, 1,967 from Rasuwa, 589 foreign nationals and 100 security personnel and government employees. Authorities have warned that the missing-person figures may include unidentified bodies and already rescued individuals, with verification still underway. Rescue operations have so far brought 13,104 people to safety, while 6,075 injured people have received medical treatment. A total of 21,465 security personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed for disaster response. Authorities have also established 39 holding centers across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Kathmandu, currently providing shelter to 3,652 displaced people. Relief efforts are continuing through road and air routes, with 83 trucks and 38 Boleros transporting essential supplies from Kathmandu and security forces conducting 182 helicopter flights to deliver relief materials. The government has allocated Rs. 15 crore in cash assistance to affected districts and local levels, while fuel reserves have also been maintained to prevent shortages in disaster-hit areas.
