Disaster Relief Fund Crosses Rs. 7.88 Billion as Government Plans Reconstruction
Prime Minister Balen Shah says the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund has collected Rs. 7.88 billion, while international partners continue to support Nepal’s disaster response and reconstruction efforts.
Prime Minister Balen Shah has informed Parliament that Rs. 7,00,88,57,217 has been collected in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund so far. He said countries including India, China, the United States, Japan, Bangladesh, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Korea have provided financial and material assistance for Nepal’s disaster response and relief efforts. Shah also said Indian, Chinese and Nepali tunnel experts are jointly involved in rescue operations related to affected tunnels. According to him, recent disasters have damaged 48 suspension bridges, of which 28 require complete reconstruction and 20 need maintenance. In addition, 31 motorable bridges have been swept away, prompting the government to prepare for the rapid installation of Bailey bridges to restore road connectivity in affected areas. The Prime Minister further stated that 12 hydropower projects have been affected by the disasters, including 8 operational projects and 4 projects under construction.
