SEBON Launches World Investor Week 2026 with Focus on Investor Protection

The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) is set to observe World Investor Week 2026 (WIW 2026) from October 5 to 11, 2026 (Ashwin 19 to 25, 2083) with a nationwide campaign focused on investor education and protection. Organized under the annual initiative of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), this year's theme is “Invest in Your Future. Protect It Today.” The campaign will cover areas including investor resilience, digital resilience, digital deception, scam alerts, investment basics, and young and next-generation investors. SEBON will coordinate with the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE), CDS and Clearing Limited, securities companies, and other market institutions to conduct investor education sessions, training programs, awareness campaigns, and public outreach activities. The regulator has urged investors to conduct proper research before investing, understand the risks associated with securities products, and avoid relying solely on social media posts, influencers, rumors, or promises of guaranteed returns. Investors have also been advised to remain alert to AI-generated deepfakes, voice cloning, fake identities, and other forms of digital fraud, while using security measures such as two-factor authentication. SEBON has further encouraged investors to assess economic and financial conditions, diversify investments, maintain emergency funds, and remain cautious of unusual price and trading-volume movements that could indicate market manipulation. The Board has emphasized that securities transactions should be conducted only through licensed securities businesses and that investors should rely on official sources for accurate market information. Through WIW 2026, SEBON aims to strengthen financial literacy, enhance investor protection, and promote a more informed, responsible, and resilient investment culture in Nepal.
