Nepal Moves to Introduce Separate LPG Cylinders and Prices for Homes, Businesses
The government has formed a committee to study separate LPG cylinder sizes and pricing for household and commercial users, with a report expected within 15 days.
The government has started studying a separate LPG cylinder and pricing system for household and commercial users. A committee led by Jitendra Basnet, Joint Secretary and spokesperson at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, has been formed to recommend a suitable framework. Currently, households, hotels, restaurants and industries use the same 14.2 kg LPG cylinder at around Rs. 2,060. Since commercial users also benefit from the household subsidy, the government is considering separate pricing to better target the subsidy. The committee is also studying the use of 450 kg jumbo cylinders for large commercial establishments. It is expected to submit its report within 15 days, after which the government may begin the implementation process.
