Flood Damage Disrupts Over 1,000 MW Hydropower, Nepal Imports 251 MW Electricity from India
Floods have disrupted power generation from hydropower projects with more than 1,000 MW capacity, prompting Nepal to import 251 MW of electricity from India to meet domestic demand.
Floods on Bhadra 10 and Ashoj 8–9 caused major damage to hydropower projects, disrupting generation from over 1,000 MW of installed capacity. To manage the resulting power shortage, Nepal is currently importing 251 MW of electricity from India. According to Nepal Electricity Authority, electricity is being imported through Sampatiya (70 MW), Ramnagar (36.4 MW), Raxaul (89.2 MW), and Tanakpur (55 MW). The authority said the imports have helped maintain electricity supply following the flood-related disruptions.
