LPG Shortage Deepens in Kathmandu as Highway Damage Disrupts Supply

The shortage of cooking LPG has once again intensified in Kathmandu Valley following disruptions to transportation along the Prithvi Highway. The road section at Krishnabhir was damaged and partially collapsed following recent flooding, preventing LPG bullet trucks from reaching Kathmandu. The disruption has added to an existing shortage that had already been affecting consumers. According to the Nepal Oil Corporation, no LPG bullet trucks have entered Kathmandu Valley since Bhadra 13 because of the road disruption. The corporation is working on plans to bring gas into the valley through alternative transportation routes. Meanwhile, Salt Trading Corporation received an LPG shipment on Sunday after a prolonged gap, raising hopes among consumers that distribution would resume. Large crowds and long queues of consumers were seen at the corporation’s central office waiting to obtain LPG cylinders. One consumer reported that they had finally received gas after their turn came based on a token issued on Bhadra 10. The continuing highway disruption has raised concerns over the availability and distribution of cooking gas in Kathmandu.
