Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between bonus and cash dividend?
A cash dividend is paid in rupees to your bank account. A bonus dividend is paid as new shares credited to your Demat account; it increases the number of shares you hold rather than paying cash.
How is dividend percentage calculated in Nepal?
Dividend percentage is declared on the face value of the share, usually Rs. 100. A 10% cash dividend therefore pays Rs. 10 per share before tax, whatever the market price.
Where can I see a company's dividend history?
Search the symbol in the list above for the declared dividend, or open the company page on Share Gyan (for example NABIL) and choose the Dividends tab for its bonus and cash dividend history by fiscal year.
Is dividend taxed in Nepal?
Yes. Dividends from listed companies are subject to a 5% final withholding tax, which the company deducts before paying the cash dividend. Tax on bonus shares is usually settled from the cash portion.
