How do I open a Demat and MeroShare account?
Apply at a depository participant (DP), usually a bank's capital company or a broker, with your citizenship, a photo and a bank account. The DP opens the Demat account and gives you a 16-digit BOID, then activates MeroShare and emails your login. Register your bank for C-ASBA to get the CRN needed for IPO applications.

Documents you need
- Nepali citizenship certificate (for a minor: birth registration certificate, with the guardian's citizenship)
- A recent passport-size photo
- A bank account in your own name, used for dividends and IPO payments
- Your mobile number and email address
- PAN, if you have one (needed later for some broker and tax steps)
Step 1: Choose a depository participant (DP)
A DP is a bank's capital or merchant banking company, or a stock broker, licensed by CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC) to open Demat accounts. Most banks' capital companies let you fill the form online and finish KYC by video or at a branch.
Step 2: Open the Demat account and get your BOID
Fill the Demat form with your personal, bank and nominee details, attach the documents and pay the DP's fee. When the account is opened you receive a 16-digit BOID (beneficiary owner ID). Your shares, IPO allotments and bonus shares are credited to this account.
Step 3: Apply for MeroShare at the same DP
MeroShare is CDSC's online portal for your Demat account. Ask your DP to activate it (often on the same form). You receive a username and password by email, and log in at meroshare.cdsc.com.np by choosing your DP.
Step 4: Get a CRN for C-ASBA and link your bank
To apply for IPOs, right shares and FPOs from MeroShare, your bank must register you for C-ASBA and give you a CRN (customer reference number). Add the bank account and CRN in MeroShare under My Details and Bank. Without a valid CRN, IPO applications are rejected.
Step 5: Open a broker account to buy and sell on NEPSE
Demat and MeroShare are enough for IPOs. To trade listed shares in the secondary market, also open an account with a NEPSE broker, which gives you a TMS login. When you sell, transfer the sold shares from MeroShare (EDIS) so the trade settles.
What to do next
- See which issues are open on upcoming IPOs in Nepal, then follow the steps to apply for an IPO in MeroShare.
- After an issue closes, check your IPO result with your BOID.
- Pick a broker from the NEPSE broker list to trade on TMS, and estimate costs with the share calculator.
Demat and MeroShare questions
What is the difference between Demat and MeroShare?
The Demat account holds your shares electronically at CDSC and is identified by your 16-digit BOID. MeroShare is the online portal for that Demat account, used to apply for IPOs, check results, see holdings and transfer shares you sell.
Can I open a Demat account online in Nepal?
Yes. Many DPs, mainly bank capital companies, take the Demat and MeroShare form online and complete KYC by video call or a short branch visit. Ask your DP whether it offers online opening.
How do I renew MeroShare and my Demat account?
Demat and MeroShare are renewed every year by paying the renewal fee to your DP. Many DPs let you renew online; if you do not renew, MeroShare login stops working until you pay.
How do I apply for an IPO after opening MeroShare?
Log in to MeroShare, open My ASBA, choose the open issue, enter the number of units and your CRN, and submit with your transaction PIN. Check the result later with your BOID on the CDSC result site.
Do I need a broker account to apply for an IPO?
No. A Demat account, MeroShare and a C-ASBA registered bank account are enough for IPOs. You need a broker account and TMS only to buy and sell listed shares on NEPSE.
