How do I apply for an IPO in Nepal?
Log in to MeroShare, open My ASBA and the Apply for Issue tab, click Apply on the open IPO, choose your bank, enter the units (at least 10) and your CRN, accept the declaration and submit with your transaction PIN. The bank blocks the amount until the allotment. You need a Demat account, MeroShare and a C-ASBA registered bank account.
In Nepali: आईपीओ कसरी भर्ने (IPO kasari bharne, how to fill an IPO)
What you need before applying
- A Demat account with its 16-digit BOID (minors can hold one through a guardian)
- A MeroShare login from your depository participant (DP)
- A bank account registered for C-ASBA, with its CRN (customer reference number) added in MeroShare
- Enough balance in that bank account to cover the units you apply for
Don't have these yet? Follow the guide to open a Demat and MeroShare account.
Step 1: Check that the issue is open
IPOs for the general public open for a few working days. Check the opening and closing dates on the upcoming IPO list and read the issue notice for the price, minimum and maximum units and any quota (local residents, Nepalis abroad, employees).
Step 2: Log in to MeroShare and open My ASBA
Log in at meroshare.cdsc.com.np by choosing your DP, entering your username and password. Open My ASBA and then the Apply for Issue tab, which lists the issues currently open.
Step 3: Choose the issue and fill the form
Click Apply next to the company. Select your bank and account, enter the number of units (applied kitta), check that your CRN is filled in, and tick the declaration.
Step 4: Submit with your transaction PIN
Click Proceed, enter your 4-digit MeroShare transaction PIN and apply. Your bank blocks the application amount in your account; it is not debited unless shares are allotted.
Step 5: Confirm in Application Report
Open My ASBA, then Application Report, to see that the application is listed and verified by the bank. After the issue closes and the allotment is done, the same report and the CDSC result site show whether you were allotted.
After you apply
- Learn how the lottery works in the IPO allotment process.
- When the issue closes, check your IPO result with your BOID.
- Find the next issues on upcoming IPOs in Nepal, or the IPOs reserved for Nepalis working abroad.
IPO application questions
How many IPO shares can I apply for in Nepal?
For general public IPOs you apply for at least 10 units, in multiples of 10, up to the maximum set in the issue's prospectus. Applying for more units does not raise your chance much, because oversubscribed issues are allotted by lottery, usually 10 units per selected applicant.
Can I apply for an IPO without MeroShare?
Yes. You can fill a physical ASBA form at a branch of a bank that offers C-ASBA, with your BOID and bank account details. MeroShare is simpler and lets you track the application and result online.
What is CRN in an IPO application?
CRN (customer reference number) is the number your bank gives you when it registers your account for C-ASBA. MeroShare needs it to block the application amount; an application with a missing or wrong CRN is rejected.
Can I apply for an IPO for my family members?
Each person applies from their own Demat account and MeroShare login, with a bank account and CRN in their own name. One person should apply only once per issue: duplicate applications from the same person are rejected in the allotment.
When will I know if I got the IPO?
The issue manager runs the allotment after the issue closes and publishes the result, usually within a few days to two weeks. Check it with your BOID on iporesult.cdsc.com.np or in MeroShare's Application Report.
